Classical Music Library: 94 albums not available

Alexander Street Press had to remove streaming access to 94 existing albums for which EMI incorrectly gave them the rights. They have not yet removed the metadata from Classical Music Library so that users will have a chance to re-assign other content to playlists if they have used any of these tracks.

Tracks from the 94 albums can still be searched for within Classical, but they are no longer playable. So if a user sees an “X” icon next to one of these tracks, it is not an error. Here is an example for reference:

So, for now, the MARC record links remain, as well as any links to playlists. Eventually, though, they will remove these albums in their entirety from the site.


Alexander Street Press: New Content

Alexander Street Press just released 22,496 tracks from EMI, Virgin Classics, and Angel Records into Classical Music Library. That is 1,529 new albums. You can see a list of all of the new content.

Highlights include recordings by Thomas Hampson, the Eroica Trio, Natalie Dessay, Sarah Chang, Les Arts Florissants, Maria Callas, Julian Bream, English Consort, Dinu Lipatti, London Philharmonic Orchestra, Christa Ludwig, Berlin Philharmonic, Sviatoslav Richter, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Taverner Choir, Kiri Te Kanawa, Maxim Vengerov, Vienna Philharmonic, and many more.
